Transition Recreation

In preparation four our main task, we studied the music video of Missy Higgins' 'Everyone's Waiting', looking in particular at shot sizes, camera angles, transitions and other conventions that make up a music video.
In response to that, we then recreated this music video using a short section of the song. We noted the types of transitions and shots used to create effect, and included them in our own.

In terms of our recreation of the music video, overall it went well but there were aspects we could see that needed improving. One thing we thought went well was the timing of the song along with our video and how the lip syncing fits. As a particularly hard thing to achieve, we were pleased with the results. As well as this, we used a cross fade transition whereby the shot is out of focus whilst it pans and then focuses on the person singing. We managed to do this well, similar to the one in the artist's video.

Regarding improvement, we realised that a better depth of field would have made our video more professional, similar to the one we were using as inspiration. However due to our limited time and setting, this was unachievable, but we would definitely consider this more when filming our main task.

Overall, we were pleased with the outcome and will use this practise as an experiment for the main task, as it made us realise what is needed to make a music video effective. From this, we can learn what we can do well and what we need to improve on to ensure that our final outcome will be effective and well presented, to represent our ability as filmmakers.
